Born in Sydney and raised in Prahran, Lindsay Fox was a natural athlete who represented Australia in ice hockey before making his mark in the VFL. A product of the St Kilda thirds who briefly detoured to Golden Point in the Ballarat league, he broke into the senior lineup in 1959. Standing just 184cm, Fox was an undersized but combative ruckman who relied on a powerful vertical leap and a relentless competitive streak to neutralise taller opponents. His playing tenure at the top level was brief, yielding 20 games over three seasons before he moved to the VFA to win a premiership with Moorabbin. While his on-field contributions were modest, his status at the club is legendary; he returned as president in 1979 to save St Kilda from insolvency, applying the same ruthless acumen that built his Linfox logistics empire to secure the club's future.
