Bio
Recruited from the Eastern Ranges with pick 43 in the 1999 National Draft, Lindsay Gilbee evolved from an inconsistent youngster into one of the most damaging rebounding defenders of his era. After fighting for a regular senior spot early in his career, he flourished under coach Rodney Eade, becoming central to the Bulldogs' rapid ball-movement style. Renowned for his exquisite field kicking and ability to read the play, Gilbee operated as a quarterback off the half-back flank, using his precision distribution to set up attacks and his booming right boot to threaten goal from outside 50 metres.
His career best form came in 2006, where he earned All-Australian selection and famously booted six goals against Richmond at the MCG, a rare haul for a defender. Gilbee remained a composed and vital figure in the Bulldogs' backline during their sustained run of preliminary final appearances between 2008 and 2010. He retired in 2012 as a one-club player and Life Member, leaving a legacy as one of the finest kicks in the club's history.
