Bio
A talented long-kicking left-footer whose promising VFL career was significantly impacted by National Service, Lindsay McGie joined Essendon from local club Essendon Baptists-St John's. He made an immediate impression as a half-back and follower, winning the club's Best First Year Player award in 1964 and featuring in 12 games. However, his momentum was stalled when he was conscripted into the Army, forcing him to miss the entire 1966 and 1967 seasons while serving with the 6th and 2nd Battalions in Vietnam. McGie returned to Windy Hill in 1968 to play a further 14 games, but after managing just one senior appearance in 1969, he crossed to the SANFL to play for Port Adelaide, where he later coached the Under-19s.
