Recruited from Kew in the East Suburban Churches competition, Lindsay Turnbull was a tall utility who briefly broke into the Hawthorn lineup during the 1951 season. Standing 183cm, he played three senior games for the Hawks late in the year but was unable to secure a permanent position at VFL level. His football journey found its true peak in country Victoria, where he became a dominant figure for Irymple in the Sunraysia Football League.
