Bio
Hailing from the remote Northern Territory community of Borroloola, Lloyd Johnston arrived at the Gold Coast Suns via their Darwin Academy zone as a Category B rookie. A line-breaking defender with blistering speed and a massive vertical leap, Johnston provided immediate excitement with his dash from half-back and ability to drift forward, famously celebrating a goal with a backflip during his time at the club. He tasted early success as a key member of the Suns' maiden VFL premiership side in 2023, the same year he made his AFL debut against Carlton. Despite his raw athletic gifts and potential as a cult favourite, Johnston struggled to cement a regular position in the senior lineup and was delisted at the conclusion of the 2025 season after nine games.
