Bio
Recruited from Preston District, Alonzo "Lon" Smith was a forward who earned a brief opportunity with Essendon during the 1908 season. He made his debut against Richmond in Round 4 and held his place for six matches in a highly competitive lineup destined for that year's Grand Final. Despite kicking a goal during his stint at East Melbourne, Smith was unable to cement a permanent spot among the club's elite forwards and was omitted from the side mid-season. He subsequently returned to Preston, where he found greater individual success as a key target in attack, notably topping the club's goalkicking table in 1910.
