Bio
Recruited from Albury in the Ovens & Murray league, Loy Stewart’s arrival at Kardinia Park was delayed by his service in the Australian Army following World War II. Although standing 183cm—tall for the era—and often utilised as a ruck-defence utility capable of pinch-hitting in the air, he found his true niche as a reliable back pocket. He cemented his place in Geelong folklore by holding down that defensive post in the club's celebrated 1951 premiership victory over Essendon. Despite playing senior football the following season during the Cats' record-breaking unbeaten run, he missed selection for the 1952 back-to-back triumph, ultimately finishing his brief but successful VFL tenure with a premiership medallion from just 22 appearances.
