Bio
Hailing from Temora in regional New South Wales, Luke Breust stands as one of the most successful rookie draft selections in AFL history. Recruited by Hawthorn with pick 47 in the 2009 Rookie Draft, he spent his early years developing in the reserves before breaking into the senior side in 2011. He quickly established himself as a vital component of the Hawks' dominant era, forming a lethal small forward combination with Cyril Rioli and Paul Puopolo. His contributions were pivotal during Hawthorn's premiership hat-trick between 2013 and 2015, where his defensive pressure was matched only by his clinical finishing skills.
Renowned for his elite goal-kicking accuracy, Breust earned a reputation as one of the most reliable set shots in the competition, famously kicking 29 consecutive goals without a behind during the 2014 season. A dual All-Australian and multi-time club leading goalkicker, he evolved from a crafty pocket specialist into a seasoned forward line general. While his game was built on high-intensity pressure and crumbing, his durability and consistency allowed him to maintain high output well into his thirties, surpassing 500 career goals—a rare feat for a general forward.
