Bio
Recruited from the Geelong Falcons with the number one pick in the renowned 2001 Super Draft, Luke Hodge carried the heavy burden of expectation throughout his early career, often measured against fellow draftee Chris Judd. While it took time for Hodge to match the immediate impact of his peers, he eventually established himself as the premier on-field leader of his generation. A dual-sided player with a lethal left foot, he evolved from a tough midfielder into a controlling half-back, renowned for his courage, ability to read the play, and physical imposition in contested situations.
Hodge's legacy at Hawthorn is defined by his tenure as "The General," where he captained the side during their historic three-peat of premierships from 2013 to 2015. His reputation as a big-game player was solidified by two Norm Smith Medals; the first in 2008 where he marshalled the defence to upset Geelong, and the second in 2014 where he dominated the midfield against Sydney. His playing style was characterised by a fearless attack on the ball and an uncanny ability to direct teammates into the right positions, acting as an extension of the coaching box on the field.
