Bio
Recruited from St Kevin's and the Oakleigh Chargers, Luke Williams joined Melbourne as the first selection in the 1997 Rookie Draft. His early development was hampered by osteitis pubis, restricting him to sporadic appearances as a utility forward while he built form in the VFL with affiliate Sandringham, eventually playing in their 2000 premiership side. Williams played his best football after being reinvented as a disciplined defender in 2003, missing just one match for the season after fighting his way back from a broken jaw to feature in the Demons' 2002 finals campaign. Despite establishing himself as a reliable backman during this peak, he found senior opportunities limited in subsequent years and spent much of his final stint adding to his VFL credentials before being delisted at the end of 2005.
