Bio
Recruited from Lake Boga in northern Victoria, Lyal Keighran arrived at South Melbourne during the final stages of the Second World War. A capable forward with an eye for goal, he showed early promise by booting three majors in his debut season, but found himself squeezed out of the senior side the following year as the Swans surged toward the famous 1945 Grand Final. He returned to the lineup sporadically to provide depth in the post-war years, yet struggled to cement a permanent spot in the eighteen against stiff competition. Keighran concluded his VFL tenure at the end of 1947, serving as a fringe player during a transitional era for the club.
