Bio
Recruited from Scotch College, Rendle 'Mac' Holten was a gifted all-round sportsman who balanced his football duties with a First Class cricket career for Victoria. He played primarily as a rover and half-forward for Collingwood during the Second World War and the immediate post-war era, utilising his clever ball use and goal sense to kick 83 majors across 79 games. Holten was a consistent performer for the Magpies but departed the VFL at the age of 26 to return to the country, accepting a captain-coach position with the Wangaratta Rovers in the Ovens & Murray Football League. His influence extended well beyond his playing days, as he later entered federal politics, serving as the Member for Indi for 22 years and holding ministerial office in the Gorton and McMahon governments.
