Stats
Bio
Recruited from the Eaglehawk Football Club in the strong Bendigo Football League, Mal Smith was a diminutive forward who earned his opportunity with South Melbourne during the 1958 season. Standing just 173cm, he operated as a dangerous option near goal, showing immediate promise by booting six majors across his brief five-game stint at the Lake Oval. Despite a handy strike rate that saw him average better than a goal a game—including a bag of three on debut against North Melbourne—his time at VFL level was limited solely to the first half of the year before he departed the senior lineup.
