Bio
Arriving at North Melbourne in 1974 with a burgeoning reputation from Woodville in the SANFL, Malcolm Blight quickly established himself as one of the VFL's most electrifying talents. A mercurial half-forward and ruck-rover, he possessed a rare combination of strong marking hands, elusive movement, and a booming left-foot kick famously utilised for long-range torpedo goals. His unpredictable nature often unsettled opposition defences, allowing him to dominate matches through moments of individual brilliance rather than simple ball accumulation.
Blight became a cornerstone of the Kangaroos' success under Ron Barassi, featuring prominently in the 1975 and 1977 premiership sides. His standing in the game was cemented by his 1978 Brownlow Medal win, highlighting his dominance as a midfielder who could push forward, while his 1982 Coleman Medal proved his potency as a dedicated goalkicker in his final season. He departed the club as a genuine icon, remembered for his match-winning ability and flair that defined North Melbourne's most successful era.
