Bio
Recruited from local club Inverleigh, Malcom Reed was the definition of a persistent clubman who had to bide his time before establishing himself at the highest level. While he made his debut in his first season, he spent his early years dominating the reserves competition, notably captaining the side to the 1980 premiership and tying for the Gardiner Medal in 1981. A versatile utility who eventually found his niche as a reliable back pocket, Reed’s resilience was rewarded when he finally cemented a regular senior spot in 1982, becoming a fixture in the defensive rotation during the mid-1980s. Though rarely a headline grabber, he was a highly respected figure at Kardinia Park who provided crucial stability and depth over a decade-long tenure with the Cats.
