Bio
Born in Adelaide but revered as a giant of the WAFL, Marcel "Nugget" Hilsz arrived at St Kilda courtesy of the Second World War. Like many interstate footballers of the era, his VFL career was a product of military postings, allowing him to don the Saints guernsey for a short stint while stationed in Victoria in 1942. A hard-running and durable player, Hilsz primarily operated as a defender who could repel attacks and rebound with vigour, though he possessed the versatility to swing forward and hit the scoreboard when required. Once his wartime service concluded, he returned to the Perth Football Club where he became a club icon, playing nearly 200 games, earning state selection for Western Australia, and eventually being named in the back pocket of Perth's Team of the Century.
