Bio
Recruited from the Bendigo Pioneers with pick 18 in the 1996 National Draft, Mark Alvey was a pacey small midfielder and forward whose career was largely defined by a battle against persistent injuries. Possessing the speed and skill to break lines, he showed promise during his time at the Western Bulldogs, including an appearance in the 2000 Elimination Final, but two knee reconstructions severely hampered his continuity. After 45 games in six seasons at the Whitten Oval, he was traded to Essendon for pick 74 ahead of the 2004 season to provide experienced midfield depth. Alvey added a further 14 games for the Bombers, occasionally showing flashes of his running capacity, before being delisted at the end of 2005 with his body ultimately unable to sustain the rigours of AFL football.
