Family

Recruited to Geelong under the father-son rule as the son of Rod Blake, Mark Blake was a towering ruckman whose career was defined by both premiership redemption and the harsh realities of selection integrity. While he was a proficient tap ruckman capable of accumulating high hitout numbers, his limited mobility and low possession output often drew scrutiny in an evolving game that demanded more athletic big men. His journey was marked by significant heartbreak in 2007 when he was controversially dropped for the Grand Final in favour of veteran Steven King, but he rebounded to play a crucial role as the secondary ruckman to Brad Ottens in the Cats' 2009 Premiership victory over St Kilda. Unable to hold his spot against emerging, more versatile competitors later in his tenure, he was delisted following the 2011 season, leaving him stranded on exactly 99 senior games.
