Bio
Recruited from the small Victorian country town of Wandella, Mark Bos arrived at Kardinia Park with high expectations after winning the club's Under-19 Best and Fairest in 1978. Although initially scouted as a centreman and ruck-rover, he carved out a successful niche as a dashing half-back flanker. Bos became a fixture of the Cats' backline throughout the 1980s, known for playing fearless, aggressive rebound football. He combined a close-checking defensive mindset with the ability to peel off and take strong overhead marks, using his long kicking to turn defence into attack.
His consistency was rewarded during the latter stages of his career, where he claimed back-to-back Carji Greeves Medals as Geelong's Best and Fairest in 1987 and 1988. These accolades highlighted his value to the team during a period that featured some of the club's biggest names. Bos remained a key figure during the Cats' memorable 1989 campaign, playing in the legendary Grand Final against Hawthorn which is widely regarded as one of the greatest games ever played. He surprised many by retiring immediately after that season aged just 29, stepping away from the VFL to focus on life outside of football.
