Bio
Recruited from VFA neighbour Geelong West, Mark Browne debuted for the Cats in the opening round of 1974 alongside his older brother Ricky. While he had established himself as a dominant centreman in the Bendigo league and with the Roosters, Browne found his preferred path to the midfield blocked at VFL level, forcing him to reinvent himself as a crafty half-forward flanker and relief rover. He proved to be a natural ball-winner with a sharp eye for the goals, booting 60 majors across five seasons, though his momentum was often stalled by injuries, including a serious Achilles issue in 1975 that restricted him to a role in the club's reserves premiership victory. After falling out of love with the VFL environment, he returned to Geelong West in 1979, eventually leaving a lasting broader sporting legacy as the father of Australian netball stars Madi and Kelsey Browne.
