Teams

Recruited from the Oakleigh Chargers with pick 34 in the 1995 National Draft, Mark Chaffey developed into a cornerstone of the Richmond defence for a decade. After making his debut in 1997, he established himself as a disciplined and courageous back pocket specialist, often tasked with nullifying the opposition's most dangerous small forwards. While rarely grabbing headlines for offensive output, his reliability, close-checking capabilities, and ability to play on opponents varying in size made him a fixture in the senior side for the vast majority of his tenure.

Chaffey played his best football during the Tigers' brief resurgence under Danny Frawley, featuring as a key component of the 2001 side that reached a Preliminary Final. His standing within the club was highlighted by a runner-up finish in the 2001 Jack Dyer Medal and a third-place finish the following season, reflecting his high level of consistency. After ten seasons of service at Punt Road, Chaffey was delisted at the conclusion of the 2006 season as the club looked to regenerate its list, departing as a respected clubman who maximised his talent through grit and application.
