Stats
Bio
A teenage recruit from West Footscray, Mark Cross tasted senior football at just 17 years of age, playing four games as a rover for the Bulldogs in 1974. While his time at the elite level was fleeting, he established himself as a genuine star in the VFA with Williamstown, where his tenacity and goal sense earned him selection in the club’s Team of the Decade. Cross was instrumental in the Seagulls' 1976 premiership campaign, famously kicking the winning goal in the preliminary final, and eventually captained the side before a teaching posting took him to the country. He later built an impressive resume as a coach, leading Mildura Imperials to a hat-trick of flags and mentoring Melbourne's reserves to consecutive Grand Finals, while his footballing legacy was furthered by his son Joel, a dual Magarey Medallist in the SANFL.
