Bio
Recruited from St Dominic’s, Mark Dawson was a versatile utility and rover who fought for opportunities in North Melbourne’s star-studded 1970s lineup. While he struggled to cement a permanent spot in Ron Barassi’s powerful squad, he enjoyed a breakout season in 1976, booting 26 goals and playing in the Grand Final loss to Hawthorn. His VFL career ultimately ended in heartbreak two years later; despite playing in the winning 1978 Preliminary Final side, he was famously omitted for the Grand Final and never played for the club again. Dawson moved to the SANFL the following season, serving as the player traded to Port Adelaide to facilitate Australian Football Hall of Legend Russell Ebert's transfer to the Kangaroos.
