Bio
Recruited from the amateur ranks at North Melbourne CBC Old Boys, Mark Hannebery was a pacy, left-footed wingman and half-back flanker known for his speed and dash. He established himself as a regular contributor for Collingwood during a highly competitive era, yet remarkably never played in a final despite the Magpies contesting three consecutive Grand Finals between 1979 and 1981. Hannebery transferred to Essendon for the 1984 season but found it difficult to break into Kevin Sheedy's formidable premiership-bound lineup, managing just a single senior appearance against his former side before returning to local football as a captain-coach. The brother of Footscray player Matt Hannebery and uncle of Sydney premiership star Dan Hannebery, he remains a notable figure in a strong footballing family.
