Recruited from Keilor Park, Mark Harvey wasted little time establishing himself in Kevin Sheedy's lineup, tasting the ultimate success as a teenager in Essendon's back-to-back premierships of 1984 and 1985. While he began his career as a crafty forward with a keen goal sense, he evolved into a rugged, versatile utility best known for his uncompromising attack on the ball. Harvey's fearless style frequently resulted in heavy knocks, but his ability to play through pain and put his body on the line became a defining characteristic of his 14-season tenure at Windy Hill.

As he matured, Harvey transitioned into a key defensive playmaker and on-field leader, playing a crucial role in guiding the youthful 1993 'Baby Bombers' side to a flag as a senior mentor. His individual excellence was recognised during this peak period with a Crichton Medal in 1992 and All-Australian selection in 1993. A three-time premiership player and loyal one-club servant, Harvey retired in 1997 revered not just for his versatility, but for setting a standard of toughness that came to symbolise the club's era of dominance.
