Recruited from East Perth, Mark MacLure arrived at Princes Park in 1974 and evolved into one of the most intelligent key forwards of his generation. While he lacked the raw athleticism and pace of some contemporaries, the man affectionately known as 'Sellers' compensated with elite positioning, reliable hands, and a football brain that allowed him to dictate the flow of the forward line. Operating primarily at centre half-forward, he acted as the conduit between the midfield and goal, often absorbing physical punishment to create space for the club's fleet of small forwards and rovers.

MacLure's influence was instrumental during Carlton's golden era, playing a pivotal role in the 1979, 1981, and 1982 premiership sides. Despite chronic back and knee issues that hampered his movement in the latter stages of his career, he remained a vital structural component of the team, relying on his strength and experience to contest marks. He captained the Blues in his final season in 1986, retiring as a three-time premiership player and a club icon who helped define the ruthlessly successful culture of Carlton in the late 1970s and early 80s.
