Bio
Recruited from West Adelaide as a highly decorated SANFL premiership player, Mark Mickan occupies a distinct place in VFL/AFL history as a foundation player for two separate interstate clubs. A physically imposing ruckman known for his competitive nature and strong leadership, he was appointed the inaugural captain of the Brisbane Bears for their entry into the competition in 1987. After leading the Bears through their tumultuous early seasons, Mickan returned to his home state in 1991 to join the newly formed Adelaide Crows, where his vast experience proved crucial during the team's formative years. Although injuries restricted his on-field impact in the latter stages of his career, he remained a respected veteran presence until his retirement in 1993, eventually transitioning into a successful coaching career at the state league level.
