Bio
Recruited from Corowa-Rutherglen in the Ovens & Murray Football League, Mark O'Donoghue was a lively small forward who made a memorable start to his VFL career. He debuted for North Melbourne in early 1988 alongside future club legend Mick Martyn, kicking two goals against Geelong in a promising first appearance. O'Donoghue's potential was further recognised when he represented New South Wales at the 1988 Adelaide Bicentennial Carnival, but he managed just one further senior game for the Kangaroos. Seeking greater opportunity, he was traded to the Sydney Swans for the 1989 season in exchange for a late draft pick. However, he was unable to break into the senior lineup during his stint in the harbour city and eventually returned to country football to continue his career with Corowa-Rutherglen.
