Bio
Recruited from the Riverland town of Waikerie via West Adelaide, Mark Ricciuto entered the AFL as a highly touted teenager in 1993. He made an immediate impact for the Crows, debuting while still completing his final year of high school and quickly earning a reputation as a prodigiously talented youngster. Although a groin injury forced him to miss the club's breakthrough premiership in 1997, he was a pivotal member of the 1998 flag-winning side, establishing himself as a physical presence who could impact the contest regardless of where he lined up.
Renowned for his brute strength and competitive nature, Ricciuto evolved into one of the era's dominant midfielders. He was the prototype of the modern big-bodied on-baller, capable of winning hard contested ball, clearing packs, and drifting forward to take strong overhead marks. This versatility allowed him to kick nearly 300 career goals, providing a dual threat that opposition coaches found difficult to negate. His individual excellence was formally recognised in 2003 when he shared the Brownlow Medal with Nathan Buckley and Adam Goodes.
