Bio
An imposing key position prospect originally from North Ballarat, Mark Russell spent time on Geelong's list before finally breaking into the VFL with the Sydney Swans. Standing 190cm and playing as a tall forward option, he made his debut in the Swans' massive opening round victory over St Kilda in 1985, going on to boot 13 goals in 14 games during the club's Geoffrey Edelsten era. He transferred to Melbourne in 1986, effectively following coach John Northey to the Demons, but could not crack the senior side and returned to North Ballarat midway through the season having played his entire top-level career in a single year.
