Bio
Recruited from Penguin in Tasmania, Mark Williams was a hulking 194cm key position prospect who arrived at North Melbourne during the club’s golden era under Ron Barassi. Breaking into the formidable Kangaroos lineup proved difficult for the youngster, who managed just a solitary senior appearance during the club's historic 1977 premiership campaign and three games the following year before a serious knee injury halted his progress. His place in VFL history is largely defined by his involvement in one of the era's most significant transfers, as he was traded to Footscray alongside teammates Gary Cowton and John Moysey to secure Brownlow Medallist Gary Dempsey’s move to Arden Street. Williams added five games to his tally at the Western Oval in 1979 before returning to his home state, where he eventually became a legendary goal-kicking figure in the NWFU and NTFL.
