Family

Recruited from South Fremantle with pick 43 in the 2000 National Draft, Mark Williams established himself as a highly efficient medium-sized forward who played taller than his stature suggested. Renowned for his sure hands on the lead and exceptional accuracy, Williams topped Hawthorn's goalkicking in 2005 and 2006 before becoming a vital component of the club's 2008 premiership side. In that flag-winning season, he booted 63 goals, serving as the perfect foil to key forwards Lance Franklin and Jarryd Roughead and earning a reputation for his clinical set-shot routine and signature "shotgun" celebration.

Despite his on-field success, Williams battled persistent knee issues that eventually curtailed his prime. Following the 2009 season, he was traded to Essendon as a central piece of the complex four-club deal that delivered Shaun Burgoyne to the Hawks. While the Bombers hoped to add his finishing ability to their forward line, his degenerative knee injury restricted him to just four games over two seasons at Windy Hill. He retired in 2011, remembered best by the Hawthorn faithful as a sharp-shooting premiership hero who rarely missed when it mattered.
