Bio
Martin "Rac" Heppell arrived in the AFL with one of the league's most unique backstories, having spent significant time during his childhood living with the Dayak headhunting tribe in Borneo before completing his education at Carey Grammar. A hard-running wingman and on-baller, he was selected by St Kilda in the 1993 Pre-Season Draft and played his best football early, impressing on debut before finding regular senior opportunities limited. After being delisted by the Saints, he was thrown a lifeline by Melbourne in the 1995 Pre-Season Draft but added just two games to his career tally before exiting the national league. Heppell moved to the SANFL with Norwood, where he overcame a major knee reconstruction to taste reserves premiership success, displaying the perseverance that would later see him become a prominent educator and presenter with The Resilience Project.
