Bio
Recruited from Bacchus Marsh, Martin Wheelahan arrived at South Melbourne in 1930 alongside his brother Danny, commencing a brief VFL career in the red and white. Standing just 173cm, he was a diminutive rover and forward pocket who served primarily as a depth player at the Lakeside Oval while his sibling established himself as a senior regular. Wheelahan managed to break into the side for six games in his debut season—notably being called up to replace his brother in the lineup late in the year—but struggled to cement a permanent position in the seniors. After adding just five more appearances in 1931, he departed the league prior to South Melbourne's famous "Foreign Legion" recruitment drive, leaving the VFL with a modest record of 11 games.
