Bio
Recruited from local club Geelong West, Marty Lynch was a lively small forward who carried a poignant family legacy at Kardinia Park, following in the footsteps of his older brother Jack, a former Geelong player who was tragically killed in action during World War II. Standing 175cm, Lynch was a productive option near goal, boasting a sharp conversion rate and booting 63 majors across his five seasons in the Hoops. Despite his scoring ability, he found himself on the fringe of a Geelong side that was rapidly evolving into the "unbeatable" premiership powerhouse of the early 1950s. Unable to force his way into the legendary 1951 premiership lineup, he transferred to South Melbourne the following year in search of regular senior football. He played a single season with the Swans, adding 11 goals to his career tally, and is remembered as a capable goal-kicker who was unfortunate to be competing for a spot against some of the greatest forwards of his era.
