Bio
Standing at 211cm, Mason Cox carved out a unique place in football history as an American college basketball convert who became a genuine AFL contributor. Discovered at a US combine, he signed with Collingwood as an international rookie and famously kicked a goal with his first touch during the 2016 Anzac Day clash. While his output occasionally fluctuated, his aerial presence made him a difficult matchup, a quality best demonstrated in the 2018 Preliminary Final where he tore apart Richmond's defence to help guide the Magpies to a Grand Final appearance. Later in his career, necessitated by recurring eye injuries, he became instantly recognisable for his protective prescription goggles while operating as a deep forward and back-up ruckman who specialised in crashing packs and bringing the ball to ground.
After eleven seasons and over 130 games in black and white, Cox departed Collingwood at the conclusion of the 2025 season. He headed west to join Fremantle for the 2026 campaign, providing the Dockers with experienced ruck depth and a structural target inside 50. As the first American to play 100 AFL games, Cox established a pathway for international talent, evolving from a raw project player into a legitimate senior footballer and a cult figure at the AIA Centre.
