Bio
Hailing from Nar Nar Goon in West Gippsland, Matt Cunningham was a pacey wingman and half-forward with a background in professional running. He initially spent the 1953 pre-season with Melbourne without breaking into the senior lineup, eventually making his way to Fitzroy where he debuted in 1956. Known for his speed and athleticism, Cunningham played the majority of his football in his first two seasons before missing senior selection during the Lions' 1958 finals campaign. Despite contemplating a switch back to the Demons that year, he remained at Brunswick Street for a final stint in 1959, concluding his VFL career as a capable speedster who added valuable run to the Fitzroy side of the late 1950s.
