Bio
A product of the Giants Academy from Narrandera, Matt Flynn exemplifies the patience often required for developing tall prospects, waiting more than five years on the GWS list before finally making his AFL debut in 2021. Originally taken with pick 41 in the 2015 National Draft, Flynn spent his early career learning under Shane Mumford and overcoming significant injury setbacks before establishing himself as a competitive tap ruckman capable of taking strong contested marks around the ground. Despite showing he could compete at the top level, he was eventually squeezed out of the Giants' preferred lineup by the breakout form of Kieren Briggs in 2023. Seeking to secure a permanent number one ruck role, Flynn moved to West Coast as a free agent ahead of the 2024 season to help fill the void left by Nic Naitanui, tasked with stabilizing the Eagles' stoppage work while mentoring the club's developing talls.
