Bio
Overlooked in four national drafts due to concerns over his lack of pace, Matt Priddis forged one of the most remarkable careers in West Coast Eagles history through sheer work rate and determination. A prolific ball-winner in the WAFL with Subiaco, where he won a Sandover Medal, Priddis was finally given an opportunity via the rookie list in 2006. He quickly established himself as the engine of the Eagles' midfield, renowned as a contested ball beast and a tackling machine who thrived in heavy traffic. While he lacked the explosive speed of modern midfielders, his ability to extract the football and feed outside runners via sharp handballing made him indispensable to the team's structure.
His consistency was rewarded with the ultimate individual honour in 2014 when he won the Brownlow Medal, cementing his status as an elite clearance specialist. Priddis also claimed the John Worsfold Medal as club champion and earned All-Australian selection during his peak. A key figure in West Coast's run to the 2015 Grand Final, he remained a quintessential professional and a mentor to younger midfielders until his retirement in 2017. By the time he hung up the boots, the one-time rookie hopeful had etched his name as one of the club's all-time greats and a prime example of maximising natural talent through relentless effort.
