Bio
Recruited from Peel Thunder in Western Australia, Matt Riggio arrived at North Melbourne with significant expectations after being selected with the tenth overall pick in the 2005 National Draft. Primarily a rebounding defender who could transition into the midfield, he possessed good endurance and was often utilized in defensive shut-down roles during his limited opportunities at senior level. Despite his high draft status, Riggio struggled to consistently break into a seasoned Kangaroos lineup under Dean Laidley, managing just ten games across four seasons at Arden Street. Following his delisting at the conclusion of the 2009 season, he returned to his home state and forged a distinguished career with Swan Districts in the WAFL, where he became a premiership player and long-serving captain.
