Recruited from the North Ballarat Rebels with pick 29 in the 2004 National Draft, Matt Rosa established himself as a reliable wingman for West Coast during a successful era for the club. Although he debuted in 2005 and played 22 games the following year, he famously missed out on the 2006 premiership side due to a heartbreaking selection squeeze on the eve of the finals. Renowned for his elite aerobic capacity and disciplined two-way running, Rosa was an accumulator who provided a vital link between defence and attack rather than a flashy scoreboard threat. His ability to find space made him a consistent performer, though the introduction of the substitute rule occasionally saw him marginalised during the latter stages of his time in Perth.

After playing in the Eagles' 2015 Grand Final loss to Hawthorn, Rosa requested a trade to Gold Coast, seeking greater job security and a move away from the substitute role. He arrived at the Suns as a senior leader, immediately joining the leadership group to mentor a developing list. While his stint in Queensland was frequently interrupted by soft tissue injuries, he managed to surpass the 200-game milestone before retiring in 2018. He is remembered as a consummate professional who maximised his endurance traits to maintain a long career across two states.
