Bio
Recruited from the Dandenong Stingrays with pick 17 in the 2010 National Draft, Matt Shaw was a foundation player for the Gold Coast Suns, arriving as part of the initial wave of young talent tasked with establishing the expansion club. A hard-running wingman and half-back, Shaw relied on elite endurance and a high work rate to link play between the arcs. While he often flew under the radar compared to the Suns' higher-profile midfielders, he became a consistent presence in the side during its formative years and was one of the first players to reach the 100-game milestone for the club.
After falling out of favour during the 2017 season, Shaw was delisted by Gold Coast but received a career lifeline from Carlton, who selected him in the rookie draft for 2018. Intended to add experienced depth to a rebuilding Blues list, he struggled to secure a regular spot in the senior side, managing just two appearances at his second club. He was delisted at the conclusion of the 2018 season, finishing his time at the elite level as a serviceable utility who played a significant role in the Suns' early history.
