Bio
Recruited from the prestigious Assumption College football factory, Matthew Dundas joined Fitzroy via selection 59 in the 1988 National Draft. He established himself as a tenacious, ball-winning rover who could drift forward and hit the scoreboard, notably booting five goals in a match against both Sydney and Collingwood. His standout season came in 1992, where he averaged 17 disposals and polled nine Brownlow votes—second at the club only to Paul Roos. Despite his on-field consistency for the Lions, Dundas is perhaps best remembered as a central figure in one of the 1990s' most sensational trades, moving to Punt Road alongside Michael Gale and Paul Broderick in exchange for Richmond captain Jeff Hogg. While his fellow recruits became mainstays for the Tigers, Dundas struggled to replicate his Fitzroy form in yellow and black, managing just 14 games over two seasons before being delisted.
