Bio
Recruited from Rochester in country Victoria, Matthew Febey is best known as one half of the famous Demon twins alongside his brother Steven. His path to senior football was arduous compared to his sibling; despite being originally listed in the late 1980s, he was delisted without playing a senior game before being thrown a lifeline via the 1991 Pre-Season Draft. This persistence paid off when he finally debuted in 1992, quickly establishing himself as a prolific ball-winner who utilised elite endurance to patrol the wings and half-back line.
Febey became a mainstay of the Melbourne side throughout the 1990s, featuring prominently in the club's 1994 and 1998 finals campaigns. A hard-running exterior midfielder who linked play well between the arcs, he often accumulated high possession counts and provided drive through the centre of the ground. However, his tenure ended on a bittersweet note during the club's resurgence in 2000; unable to hold a spot in the best 22, he managed only three games in his final year. He was delisted at the end of the season, missing out on the Grand Final appearance that his brother participated in, but remains remembered as a resilient one-club player who fought hard for his opportunities.
