Bio
Recruited from Sturt with pick 45 in the 2010 Rookie Draft, Matthew Jaensch developed from a fringe player into a damaging rebounding defender for the Adelaide Crows. A Hahndorf native, he was renowned for his penetrating kick and ability to generate drive from the half-back line, enjoying a breakout season in 2014 where he cemented himself in the club's best 22. However, his career trajectory was altered by a serious ACL injury sustained against St Kilda in early 2015 while in career-best form. Despite successfully completing a grueling rehabilitation program and returning to senior football in 2016, Jaensch abruptly retired mid-season at just 26 years of age, citing a loss of passion for the professional environment and a desire to return to a normal life.
