Bio
Recruited from the Calder Cannons with pick 19 in the 2006 National Draft, Matthew O'Dwyer arrived at Sydney as a highly-rated second-round selection but faced a difficult path to regular senior football. A compact midfielder and defender, he spent his first two seasons developing in the reserves before finally earning a debut in Round 2, 2009 against Hawthorn. Despite his high draft status, O'Dwyer struggled to break into a disciplined and settled Swans lineup during the Paul Roos era, often finding himself stuck behind established small defenders. He managed just seven senior appearances across four seasons on the list, unable to cement a spot in the best 22 before being delisted at the conclusion of the 2010 season.
