Bio
Recruited from the Murray Bushrangers with pick 64 in the 1999 National Draft, Matthew Shir was a hard-running midfielder who struggled to cement a regular spot in a strong Adelaide lineup. After managing just 10 games in two active seasons with the Crows, he was delisted and subsequently handed a lifeline by Richmond with the fifth selection in the 2003 Pre-Season Draft. Expected to add endurance to the Tigers' midfield rotation, he found opportunities scarce at Punt Road, playing only a solitary match against Collingwood in Round 4. Shir was delisted at the conclusion of the 2003 season, ending his brief AFL career as a fringe player who could not bridge the gap to consistent senior football.
