Bio
Recruited from St Arnaud in the Victorian Wimmera, Maurie Wood established himself as a consistent half-forward for North Melbourne during the 1960s. Arriving at Arden Street in 1963, he became a regular fixture in the side, utilising his goal sense to boot 77 majors across his tenure. While he fell just short of the 100-game milestone, Wood was a reliable contributor for the Shinboners over nine seasons before retiring from the VFL in 1971. He subsequently returned to St Arnaud, where he cemented his status as a local football legend, winning three club best and fairest awards and coaching the senior side, a legacy eventually honoured with a mural in his hometown.
