Bio
Recruited from Tasmania as a teenage concession signing for the Gold Coast Suns' inaugural squad, Maverick Weller began his career as a highly rated junior but found himself delisted after three seasons as the expansion club refined its list. He was handed a lifeline by St Kilda in the rookie draft, a move that sparked a significant turnaround in his professional standards and on-field output. At Moorabbin, Weller reinvented himself as a combative, high-pressure utility who could rotate through the midfield, execute run-with roles, or play as a defensive forward.
His aggression and elite fitness base saw him quickly elevated to the Saints' leadership group, where he became a key cultural driver during the club's rebuilding phase. Known for his fierce tackling and contested ball-winning ability, Weller played his best football between 2015 and 2017 before falling out of favour under Alan Richardson. After being delisted a second time, he joined Richmond via the pre-season supplemental selection period for a final year in the system, providing experienced depth to the Tigers before retiring in 2019.
