Bio
Recruited by Hawthorn with the 18th selection in the 2005 National Draft, Max Bailey's career was defined by exceptional resilience in the face of relentless injury setbacks. A traditional tap ruckman who used his height to control stoppages and provide structural balance, his development was constantly interrupted by three separate anterior cruciate ligament reconstructions, restricting him to just 43 games over eight seasons. Despite spending significant periods in rehabilitation, Bailey remained a beloved figure within the club and eventually solidified his position as the Hawks' first-choice ruckman during the 2013 season. His perseverance was ultimately rewarded with a Premiership medallion in the 2013 Grand Final victory over Fremantle, after which he announced his retirement to teammates in the change rooms, departing the game as a highly respected figure who overcame significant adversity to achieve the ultimate success.
